This book presents one esential element of material folk art from Romania, the dowry chest. Indispensable in the homes of peasants in Romania between the 18th and the 20th centuries, the chests embody and ilustrate a lost world, hiding or telling thousands of stories in different voices: the groom and the bride, the voice of the married woman and the family and that of the master producers.

The volume includes a descriptive catalogue with about 250 pieces from the heritage of the „Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum.
