Earnest and naive, solicitor Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to organize the estate of the infamous Count Dracula at his crumbling castle. Finding himself imprisoned, Harker experiences all manner of supernatural horrors until he eventually escapes to be reunited with his fiancee Mina. Meanwhile in England, Mina’s friend Lucy has been bitten and Mina herself is under threat from the Count as he attempts to quell his appetite for human blood. Arguably the most eenduring Gothic novel of the 19th Century, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is as chilling today in its depiction of th vampire world and its exploration of Victorian values as it was at its time of publication.

Bram Stoker, born in Dublin in 1847, died in London in 1912. His biography has been forgotten behind the fame of his Dracula. He was confined to bed for the first seven years of his life due to a serious illness, a trauma that he was only able to completely overcome when he wrote his vampire novel. At Dublin University, Stoker developed unexpected mental and physical talents, became president of a philosophical and historical student community and was the star of a football team. After his studies, he made a living as an unpaid theater critic and magazine editor until he became manager of the famous Shakespeare actor Henry Irving in 1878. In his free time, he published ten books, of which only Dracula achieved international recognition. Bram Stoker died in 1912, exactly ten years before Murnau’s film „Nosferatu” marked the breakthrough of the darkest hero in world literature.
