This is a collectible rug of considerable age (95 years as of today).
Made in an interwar workshop in Constanța, established by the teacher Melitopol Rotica - Alexandra. She also participated in the Official Salon of Decorative Arts in Bucharest in 1929, where she presented her collection of antique Oltenian kilims from the 18th and 19th centuries. This kilim is in very good condition and it's a rare find outside museums. The vast majority of Romanian kilims are unsigned and undated, so this one is a rare find, not mentioning the very good condition it was kept. Shows signs of age, fading in places and missing or shorter fringes. Available for rent as well (only to a cultural organisation, like a museum or gallery) and for sale.
The price shown is for the rug in its current condition ("as it is"). If you want an evaluation and a restoration carried out by professionals in textile conservation and restoration from a museum in Romania, please write to me. Note that the final price will be different in that case.
Aici puteți vedea un alt covor realizat în același atelier, semnat și datat Rotica 1933.
