Oltenia type kilim, from a noble family, interwar period, 148 x 244 cm

5.600,00RON

This is a very precious kilim, with fine workmanship, for a noble house, dating from the interwar period. The finesse of the work can be seen in the suppleness of the plant motifs - tulips, lilies of the valley (daisy), ears of wheat, oak branches, etc. The choice of colors is also very successful, with brick red on the outer border and turquoise blue for the center field background.

It should be noted that this carpet was washed and dried improperly, so that the red color has leaked in places, the discoloration is visible on the one side fringes. The weave itself is excellent, without any holes or moths damage. This model is similar to other models presented in the book Velinte vechi (Old kilims) by Margarita Miller-Verghi (undated, but probably also printed in the interwar period). Margarita Miller-Verghi was a writer, teacher, translator and personal interpreter of HM Queen Mary of Romania.

The carpet can easily be placed on the wall, it has hooks on one of the sides. It is also available for rent (inside Romania), please contact us for more details.
