Stories in colour: 350 years of Bulgarian kilim tradition

This is the album for the latest international exhibition on Bulgarian kilims, held in Paris between April, 18th – June, 14th, 2024. It is a bilingual book, in French and English, published by the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Paris (Institute culturel bulgare).

This catalogue presents 154 images of kilims and kilim ornaments, kindly provided for the purpose of this publication by Jacop van Beelen, the owner of a collection of over 900 authentic Bulgarian kilims. The selection of images on display does not claim to be exhaustive but gives a general idea of the different kilim regions in Bulgaria with a focus on the three main ones: Chiprovtsi, Pirot and Kotel, the differences in their design and their development over time, as well as rare kilim specimens that can hardly be found in other publications.

Cet ouvrage fait partie du projet et de l’exposition Des histoires en couleur: 350 ans de tradition bulgare du kilim de l’Institut culturel bulgare a Paris, 18 avril – 14 juin 2024.

Ce catalogue contient 154 photos de kilims et de mitifs isoles, gracieusement mis a disposition par M. Jacob van Beelen, qui possede une collection the plus de 900 kilims bulgares authentiques.

Cette selection d’images ne se veut pas exhaustive, elle permet d’avoir une vue generale sur les differentes regions de production de kilims en Bulgarie, en mettant l’accent sur les trois principales regions: Tchiprovtsi, Pirot et Kotel, ainsi que sur les differences entre les modeles et leur evolution dans le temps. Elles presentent des images rares de kilims inedites dans d’autres ouvrages similaires.
