Albumul prezintă arta ţeserii covoarelor în ţara noastră, dintr-o perspectivă istorică şi deopotrivă pragmatică.
Autoarea, dr. Georgeta Stoica – cercetător cu îndelungată experienţă şi fost director al Muzeului Naţional al Satului “Dimitrie Gusti” – îmbină explicaţiile privind evoluţia tehnicilor de ţesere în creaţia populară cu imagini relevante pentru varietatea motivelor folosite şi bogăţia cromatică a obiectelor ţesute şi face menţiuni asupra simbolisticii unor compoziţii ce sugerează elemente de spiritualitate românească.

Într-o introducere sugestivă, autoarea prezintă colecţia de covoare aflată în patrimoniul Muzeului Naţional al Satului „Dimitrie Gusti” dând atenţie structurii compoziţionale, varietăţii dimensiunilor în funcţie de rolul pe care ţesătura urma să-l deţină în gospodărie, unelte şi tehnici de ţesere, frecvenţa motivelor folosite, ornamentică şi cromatică.
Textul cărţii, în versiune bilingvă română-engleză este structurat pe zone – Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, Moldova şi Transilvania – şi este susţinut de reproduceri color după aproximativ 120 de covoare de patrimoniu. Imaginile color, de ansamblu și de detaliu, redau în amănunt tehnicile de ţesere, motivele folosite şi cromatica specifică fiecărei zone, cu tot repertoriul de motive şi semnificaţiile lor.
Lucrarea este o sinteză a cercetărilor, pe care autoarea le-a efectuat de-a lungul activităţii sale, privind covoarele româneşti.
Cartea se adresează nu numai specialiştilor în domeniu, dar şi celor care studiază cultura românească în general, cât şi marelui public iubitor de frumuseţe.
Astfel, albumul se vrea şi o invitaţie adresată cititorilor de a cunoaşte îndeaproape unul dintre aspectele cele mai spectaculoase ale creaţiei tradiţionale româneşti.

In a suggestive introduction, the author presents the collection of carpets in the patrimony of the National Village Museum „ Dimitrie Gusti ” paying attention to the compositional structure, the variety of dimensions according to the role that the fabric was to have in the household, tools and weaving techniques, the frequency of the motifs used, ornamental and chromatic.

The text of the book, in bilingual Romanian-English version is structured on areas – Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, Moldova and Transylvania – and is supported by color reproductions after about 120 heritage carpets. The color images, overall and detailed, give in detail the weaving techniques, the reasons used and the chromatics specific to each area, with all the repertoire of motives and their meanings.
The paper is a synthesis of the research, which the author carried out during his activity, regarding the Romanian carpets.
